The company, founded in 2005, is comprised of a state-of-the-art haulage and distribution division branded as GAP Haulage, and a revolutionary WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) division branded as GAP Waste. The GAP Group has created its very own niche in the market as one of the only companies in the UK to handle the entire WEEE recycling process from start to finish, and as a result, has realised incredible growth and development in the last 18 months.

Boasting a large fleet of modern vehicles, which is fully supported by a state-of-the-art transport management system from Mandata; together with a fully automated WEEE Processing Plant that has been specially designed for the effective recycling of electrical appliances, GAP is well-equipped to handle its increased workload, and the management are relishing in the company’s rapid expansion. Company Director Peter Moody explains:

Having previously managed its transport operations using a manual system, GAP adopted a computerised Mandata Cloud TMS complete with integrated E-Invoicing, DIP (Document Image Processing) and Sage links as the business really began to take off in 2014.

“As the business developed, we recognised the need to invest in a comprehensive system to manage our contracts. The Mandata TMS was recommended to us by some trusted contacts within the haulage industry that were already successfully using the system, and we haven’t looked back,” Peter said.

“By automating our manual processes, the Mandata TMS has helped to organise us, and has saved us considerable time and costs along the way. We’ve got full traceability on all of our jobs from the booking stage through to invoicing, and we can recall waste consignment notes and PODs quickly and easily through our integrated DIP module because everything is contained within the one system.”

Since the opening of the WEEE Processing Plant on its 6-acre site in Gateshead, GAP’s workload has increased dramatically, bringing work into the region from a range of independent suppliers, local authorities, SME’s and multi-national Blue Chip organisations.

Designed to sort, separate and recycle electrical appliances and electronic components, the unique Processing Plant is the only one of its kind in the UK. Operating under the guidelines of the WEEE Directive, the plant effectively processes up to five tonnes of electrical waste per hour, and produces clean and non-contaminated recyclate, which is then bought by material processors to be reused, and transported to its final destination by the GAP Haulage fleet.

“We certainly couldn’t have grown to the size that we are now without Mandata.”
