Mandata's new disaster recovery solution is the culmination of an extended period of investment, following the installation of a high performance network infrastructure to accommodate a continued rise in the adoption of cloud services, and growth in customer data volumes.
In real terms, the overall investment has resulted in on-line system performance being improved for users and heightened confidence that Mandata has the right systems in place to support customer’s businesses going forward.
The new DR facility gives Mandata the capability to quickly recover systems and data for customers should they themselves suffer a data loss. And, in the event of a major disruption at Mandata’s data centre; will minimise the risk of data loss and loss of service to customers, and their customers.
As technology becomes ever-more ingrained in road haulage processes and hauliers increasingly rely on cloud and mobile-based applications, protection of data and the ability to recover data and systems quickly following a disruption, is a critical factor which should be taken into consideration when choosing a software partner.
Mandata’s DR platform, which currently hosts 95 virtual servers, is replicating over 10TB of data in real-time across two sites located in Newcastle and Edinburgh. To put this into perspective, this is the equivalent of 1,000 copies of the Encyclopaedia Britannica being copied continuously between the two sites, and the facility offers significant scope for further growth in data.
Simon Quail, IT Supervisor at Freightroute, an existing Mandata customer, sees the investment as a positive step for his business:
I am delighted with the steps Mandata has taken with regard to the new data centre and the business continuity procedures they have put in place. As part of a pallet network operating a sizeable fleet of vehicles and trailers, it is imperative that our systems remain on-line and functional at all times. With the additional resilience the new disaster recovery features provide, our operations have never felt more secure.
Time really is of the essence for the haulage industry; an operator lives and dies by reputation and the longer it takes an operator to recover from a system disruption, the more serious the impact can be on their business and their customers.
