Eighty four years ago, Leonard Bartrum purchased the lorry he was driving from his employer and set up his own transport company. Now in its ninth decade, the company has expanded into a group of companies with a turnover of over £26m offering a wide portfolio of services including general and bulk haulage, pallet distribution including hazardous freight and vehicle servicing and maintenance. The Bartrum Group is a driving force in the transport industry; employs over 270 people and operates 150 vehicles and 250 trailers from its head office in Eye, Suffolk.

Outdated systems were holding Bartrum's back

The Directors of the company realised the existing systems were holding them back. They had outgrown their existing systems and knew if the company was to move with the times, it needed to work with a software partner that was working ahead of the times.

In the past 12 months the Group has undergone a major overhaul of its accounts and transport management systems by implementing Manpack3, Sage Accounts, Sage Payroll and Workshop Management.

How the Mandata system has benefitted the business

With streamlined administration, there is now full traceability and accountability across the Group. The automation of manual processes has resulted in big improvements being made to the way employees work and efficiencies have been achieved in all areas of the business.

One example where time has been saved is in administration time. Documents such as POD's are now scanned and electronic copies saved allowing them to be easily retrieved and emailed on to customers as required. Prior to its new systems being implemented, all POD’s were photocopied which used to take a significant amount of time. This greater functionality has enabled all documents to be stored as electronic documents such as statements, remittances and invoices.

The vehicle costing feature is enabling Bartrums to focus on the profitability of all of its various vehicles.
