OLYMPIC TORCH VISITS MANDATA

SPECIAL OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST ANDREW SLACK HAS SECOND BRUSH OF OLYMPIC GLORY

We are delighted to report that Andrew Slack, the son of our Lead Developer Tim Slack, has successfully carried the Olympic flame through Dunferlmline on June 13th as the torch made its journey across the UK.

For Andrew, aged 22, the carrying of the torch was his second brush with Olympic honour, as he previously won gold in the 2009 Special Olympics for Boccia, a target ball sport for athletes with disabilities.

Tim Slack has said “I walked with Andrew to support him through his torch bearing and on the day of the walk, we had to go to our meeting point 2 hours before it took place. There were 20 torchbearers on the bus and listening to some of the stories for nominations was a very humbling experience."

Tim continues, “Once our bus was in convoy, each walker was dropped off at their starting point. The crowds were massive and dozens of people wanted their photos taken with Andrew and the torch. Once walking, the crowds cheered and clapped for Andrew as if he was famous. It was a fantastic experience which will stay with us forever.”

Since taking part in the Olympic torch relay, the Slack family have raised over £200 for charities they are actively involved with through offering the public opportunities to be pictured with the torch in exchange for donations. Andrew has also handed over his torch, Olympic Uniform and Gold medal to his local museum to offer tourists and visitors the chance to see his memorabilia in real life.
